IF THIS IS AN EMERGENCY, PLEASE CALL 911. WE ARE A NON-EMERGENCY HELPLINE ONLY.
About
This Sikh Family Helpline (SFH) is an initiative by the WSO Charity. SFH is a national peer support helpline. We launched the Sikh Family Helpline in 2016 to provide culturally respectful and system navigation supports. Our mission is to promote health and wellness for individuals and families in the Sikh community by closing current gaps in access to resources and increasing community awareness and activism.
The Sikh Family Helpline works with volunteers, institutions, and partners within and outside the Sikh community to facilitate community-building and to provide crucial social services, with special attention to cultural tradition, immigration experience, and language access.
How it Works?
When you call the Sikh Family Helpline, you will be prompted to leave a voicemail with your name, a safe number or email to contact you at, and some details on the issue you are facing. We will then return your call within 24 hours from a blocked and private number. All calls and conversations are kept strictly confidential, except in situations we deem as an emergency or where children are at risk.
THE SIKH FAMILY HELPLINE IS…
- Not for emergencies or crisis. Please call 911 for any emergency situation.
- Not a hotline. We cannot answer the phone live. Please leave a voicemail, and we will return the call within 24 hours.
- A safe resource, where your information is kept strictly confidential, except in situations we deem as an emergency or where children are at risk.
PARTNERSHIP WITH BC RACIST INCIDENT HELPLINE:
Racist Incident Helpline 1-833-HLP-LINE (1-833-457-5463)
We’re proud to share that WSO is now an official partner with the BC Racist Incident Helpline. This partnership will ensure that members of the Sikh community and all British Columbians have access to safe, reliable support when experiencing or witnessing racism. Together, we’re working to build a province where everyone feels protected, respected, and heard.
The Racist Incident Helpline is a trauma-informed resource for people who have experienced or witnessed an act of racism. The helpline provides free and confidential access to information and culturally safe supports from anywhere in BC, in over 240 languages.
Open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (PT). Callers can let their call taker know their preferred
language and an interpreter will be connected into the call.
Calls are answered by professionals, who can:
- Listen to the caller’s experience,
- Provide information about local support services,
- Direct the caller on next steps based on their comfort level, and
- With consent, refer the caller to the services that best match their needs.
Launched in May 2024 by the Government of British Columbia in partnership with United Way BC, the Racist Incident Helpline is a vital tool to help us build more caring and inclusive communities that are safe and welcoming for all.
